Tweak OSX is looking for contributors!  If you love the Mac, tinkering with settings, reading the latest Apple news and possess good writing skills please contact us at admin@tweakosx.com. We would like to see a sample news snippet as an example of your writing prowness.  Please, make sure it is in your own words, we read many many many sites and stories per day and frown greatly upon copying.  This opportunity is currently non-paid as we try to build and grow our site, however a per-post fee could be paid in the future.  This is a great way to build a portfoloio of tech writing.

Quick Tip - Add Applications and Files to Finder Toolbar

Did you know you can easily add applications and files to the finder toolbar for quick easy access?  This functionality basically adds a new dock to any finder window you may have open on you desktop. How can you accomplish this?  It’s quite simple actually, simply drag an application and hover over the finder toolbar for a second or two until the plus icon appears.  Choose your position, and drop.  Very useful!

Thanks to reader macluvr for the tip!

Quick Tip - Turn off all displays keyboard shortcut

Having no easy way to quickly sleep my displays, I have in the past resorted to setting up a hot corner in the Expose/Spaces preference tab to turn off my displays. Quick Tip: Make Safari Open Links in New Tab

If remembering to command click to open a link in a new tab in Safari gets you like it gets me, a browsing session in Safari can quickly end up with many open windows. The latest Safari update exposes a hidden preference which can be modified using a Terminal command to force Safari to open links with a target of “_blank” in a new window.  Simply open terminal and type in the following command.

defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Enjoy!

Apple MacBook, MacBook Pros

MacBook Pros

After a day with leaked product numbers showing up across different websites, the fairly obvious rumor has finally come true.  The Macbook Pro has been updated as well as the regular Macbook.  While no new form factor or eye catching changes, the Macbook Pro now includes a multi-touch trackpad and has benefited from increases in processor speed and more powerful graphics chips.  Of note, the apple remote is no longer included and is to be purchased seperately.  Head over to the apple store for more.

The title of this post says it all. Apple had introduced a 2GB iPod Shuffle this morning for $69 and reduced the price of the 1GB version to $49. As my favorite little MP3 player, I will be heading our to my Apple store to grab one of these, since I happened to have left mine in a pocket for the wash :(
My workouts will be filled with music once again!
